Hi All,
Thank you for checking out Hirewire, a 100% free Job Seeker workshop. Ken writing here to tell you about my qualifications and motivation to host/lead Hirewire.
As a quick background, I own an outplacement website called www.jobescrow.com Companies laying off put rewards in escrow for whoever helps/hires their (ex)employees. Job Seekers can self-fund rewards too.
I also own Staffback, a corporate recruiting firm in Scotts Valley, CA. Staffback provides contingent, per-hire, and per-hour recruiting for Employers. This means that we sit on the HR side of the desk in the recruiting process for several companies throughout California and the US. (Hirewire is 100% free.)
Hirewire’s genesis is a result of three things:
- I’ve been providing 1:1 free help to Job Seekers for the past several years and the same questions came up repeatedly… motivating me to look for a one-to-many forum.
- In January 2011, Fred Hennes, the Senior Pastor at my church (GateWay Bible), asked members to look at their talents and determine how each of us could use our talents to benefit the community.
- Towards the end of January, Stephanie Bidleman, a very caring and helpful Staffback recruiter, passed away from cancer after an eight month battle. I remember how she would take the time to call rejected candidates and would end up helping them with their resume. I wanted to do something meaningful to honor her memory. We miss you Stephanie but we know that we will see you again.
These events motivated me to begin exploring how to help Job Seekers in Santa Cruz County and that lead to the creation of, and long-term commitment to, Hirewire.
With daily exposure to HR/recruiting, I see a lot of things that a normal Job Seeker would not be exposed to. As a result, I wanted to share that insight and perhaps even build some momentum for helping Santa Cruz County Job Seekers, Employers and Recruiters connect. For example, we might grow to be able to have a (free) monthly job fair before/after/during the hour long workshop. For example, Employers could be a guest and talk about their opportunities during the workshop. (Employers, please reach out if this sounds of interest to you.)
I’m hopeful Hirewire will provide you, or Job Seekers you know, some benefit now or in the future. Happy job hunting!
-Ken

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for checking. The agenda for the hour is 1. Resume, 2. Search, 3. Social Media, 4. Open Q&A.
Hiring Managers/Employers are welcome and encouraged to attend to network before/after the workshop. Legitimate employers can have the mic for a few minutes in “Search” to let the group know about opportunities if that is of interest. By “legitimate” I just mean no MLM, pay to work stuff will be allowed. Thanks for checking and hope to see you April 12th, we are expecting 60-100 people.
